The OS was installed just over 7 years ago. It appears it may have at least some adware on it if not possibly something more. This computer is rather old and has a lot of stuff installed and set to start on load. What is going? This has been happening since version 1.4 something and upwards. Yes, 55 seconds! During this time, ACDSEE is using 1 % CPU, mbamservice is using 2% CPU but mbamservice is generating 17 mb/s of disk traffic, ACDSEE is generating about. Instead of taking 1 second flat as it might without MB loaded, it can take from 10 to 55 seconds. Specifically, say I'm working with ACDSEE (a picture viewer/editor) and I save a simple 5 meg JPG. And it can leap up to 5x 10x 50x the disk usage of any other process - especially those which are trying to write to the disk and therefore it slows up my entire system dramatically! It is always the highest disk usage process on my system. Task manager doesn't show me disk usage (I'm on XP SP3). I use teh AnVir Task Manager free program to monitor things. The mbamservice.exe continuously (more than 90% of the time) is placing a heavy disk load on my system. This has been covered as a High CPU issue but for me that is not the case. Then if you like, for the modest investment, go Pro on the next pass (there have been cycles on Bits of about 6 months, who knows what the future will bring.Endpoint Detection & Response for Servers It has a lot of features for a free, you won't feel whittled down. The tryout can be the Free, get used to the program. However, check the forum, you can see an example of an annoying bug or feature (as perceived by one user) that was not addressed. It is known that support and updates are not super-intense, yet they do keep it OS current. They need at least check it every few days or put in approval controls. They really need to keep the forum clean of spam, right now it has a month's worth. Anvir really can triple or quadruple as a full-featured Task/Process Manager, a Class A startup program and a security compliment. The security features are strong for a Task Manager, with some overlap to programs like WinPatrol (redundancy here can be good). I avoid many security program tests because I like to keep the undercurrents relatively untouched.) Is there ever a CPU concern? Hmmm. Some quirky reports, occasionally from users, I saw one BSOD above, yet for me it was generally stable. I always like Anvir for the feature-rich aspect. I would recommend this program to those who find there comptuer is slowing down (even though it is not because of malicous software or low system hardware) and are not sure what is causing it to slow down. “AnVir Task Manager helped gave me a better idea of what is slowing down my PC.AnVir Task Manager brought it back to life!
